A downloadable game

WarTime Warp is a 2D sidescrolling puzzle game where you must progress from one level to the next, using the power of time travel to help you. Your time travel device only takes you 10 years into the future for 10 seconds before pulling you back to the moment you used it, so you need to use the time to move as movement doesn’t reset and you get put back to wherever you were moved to when the 10 seconds ran out.

Story:

The player plays as an allied scientist called Dr Tomáš Snopková somewhere in Europe in 1944 who has just invented a way of time travel. The device only manages to take the player forward 10 years, for precisely 10 seconds, before bringing them back. They know that this device, if further researched on can change the course of not only the war, but the entire planet, but if they die then the device and all the knowledge on time travel dies with him.

Shortly after making this device, Germans are overrunning the facility so the main character hides. Once the Germans have taken the base over, the player is given control and has the task of escaping using his time travel device. The goal is to get to a certain part of each level to escape occupied land, and get away to allied territory with the plans and the device.

The device travels you forward 10 years, and gives you a look at what’s to come at the current point in time’s future. As the player progresses through the game and is more likely to escape, the future begins to change from German occupied wasteland to thriving civilization.

Gameplay:

Enemy soldiers are in the way, looking for people still there. You must use your device to travel forward in time and evade any enemies. For example, if there’s an enemy blocking your path, travel in time, move past where they would be, and when it brings you back you have gotten around them. Use this strategy along with the occasional knockout to somewhat passively escape the levels and occupied territory. Game ends when you have completed all levels.

The player also only gets a set amount of uses per level for the time travel device, making them think about each move they make, and if they run out they get caught and need to start the level again.

The game ends when you have gotten past the final level and have successfully escaped and are able to research and change the outcome of the war.

Look and feel:

The game will have a pixel art style to it as it’s what I’m most familiar and comfortable with. The game will have lots of dark colour like blacks, greys and browns towards the earlier levels, with more colours opening up later levels as the player progresses through the different states.

The audio will also be like this, with it being dark and low music at the start and a bit more upbeat and victorious sounding towards the end. SFX will be simple 8-bit style sounds too to go along with the simple pixel art style.
